After seeing the great value and health benefits of making a Sourdough Bread daily for The Hutchi Homestead, we started to look at using sourdough for our burger buns and hotdog rolls.
We found that this sourdough recipe is healthier and cheaper to make than shop-bought buns or rolls. The sourdough starter consumes the gluten and therefore making it a safe option for gluten-intolerant people.
We are all about making things as easy and simple as possible to keep our baking process sustainable, so we make use of a bread machine (we use the Kambrook bread maching) to do the work for us.
So in short, this option ticked all the boxes for us on The Hutchi Homestead, easy, healthier and cheaper on the monthly food bill. We easily consume a loaf a day.
Try and make your sourdough discard buns or rolls at home.
Thank you to Sarah Terese co for this recipe.
In June 2024 we worked out the cost to make a Sourdough Buns or Rolls, once you have the basic cooking equipment. Please note this cost does not include gas or electricity for your oven.
