Sourdough Thin Pizza Base

Friday nights are pizza night in our household and it is the highlight of our week!  We’ve become “pizza snobs” ever since we started making our own pizza base.  It’s delicious, it’s crunchy and it is filling! Since we have a family member that is gluten-sensitive, this sourdough pizza crust has become our all time favourite!

This recipe will give you about 700 grams of dough which should give you two large pizzas.

Sourdough Pizza Base

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sourdough starter
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup luke warm water
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 3 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Combine the sourdough starter, yeast, sugar and luke warm water.  Leave for about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the salt and olive oil and give it a stir
  3. Add 3 cups of the flour
  4. Knead gently on a floured surface until a smooth ball is formed.  You can add some more flour if the dough is too sticky.
  5. Put in an oiled bowl and let rise until it’s double in size.
  6. Divide into 2 – 3 pieces and press unto a baking sheet or pizza stone
  7. Top with your favourite pizza toppings and bake in the oven at 200 degrees celcius
  8. Enjoy!
